Literature Text

a fierce heavenly ripple
roared silent.
the lights have all gone out
the engine beats
no froth or foam
only mountainous rings
from the hand of God

a wide-eyed child
ran still.
the sand is wet
and the ocean empty
no tide or current
only flapping fish
luring the child in

and then the pause

a wall of cold beauty
breaking upon the shore
never braking...
screams into the side
of land
every crack and cranny wet

a fish in the child's hand
escapes home
the child invited,
follows

the air dry
now a brittle silk.
brown water filled with trees
and faces
now is light, reflective,
pure.

And in the middle of the sea
he swims deep into the heart of
Earth
where warmth takes him
and wide-eyes know
still and accepting
comforting his Mother.
I had to write something about the recent events in Thailand, Sri Lanka, and the rest of south-east asia. This will probably be editted a bit... but I really just wanted to get it down.

The earth is powerful and we can't forget that. We have to be aware of its beauty and its devastation. I never thought a tsunami could be so deadly.. earth is constantly putting me in a reality check.

yes indeed... it is a tragedy... so hard to comprehend unless you crawl over every square inch of that ravaged soil and are personally connected with every one of those families and lives...
and then it would be too overwhelming to speak.

i love your first two stanzas, because the silence is so surreal.
the last three lines of the 'wide eyed child' part could use a little work though, to make it fresh. the image is there but the wording feels a little awkward, considering the mood you set in your opening lines.

the description of the destruction is very apt, but it feels a little bit forced.
good stuff nonetheless.

good reading you again.
